Welcome to explore the cosmos scattered on ordinary street-sides in Japan!

On this exhibition we would like to show the depictions of Japanese spiritual stone figures, for example "Jizo (intimately we say O-Jizo-san)”, also called “Ksitigarbha” in Sanskrit, which is one Bodhisattva.

We find many Japanese are prone to pray in front of spiritual stones invoking various kinds of desires: good harvest, long life, prosperity, protection, and well-being.
Those who had strong wishes have enshrined such stone figures. Even today, Jizos are standing everywhere on the corner of the street-side. They might be always watching you quietly when you take a street walk.

We wish, through this exhibition, you may feel and realize the heart of Japan a little deeper than you ever did before.
The Jizos and we are waiting for your visit.
